I spent almost 8 years studying Cantonese at HKLS.

I started with the group classes which gave me a very good base. Once I felt the pace of the classes weren’t suiting me, I switched to private tuition, which worked really well. The teachers were happy to help me explore the language on my own path & accommodate my way of learning. Super flexible!

After 8 years in Hong Kong, I can’t imagine how limited my experience here would have been if I wasn’t able to converse with Hong Kongers in their own language, it really opens Hong Kong up & that’s an invaluable experience.

The classes are informal, but that suits Cantonese well, as there is no internationally recognized standard & the language is passed down orally.

I did a 1 week refresher advance course _ 1 at HKLS (group and private classes) after extensive self study and one other school in HK. The teachers are very experienced which made my visit totally worth it. Unfortunately had no more time to study more, but will certainly come back to HKLS when I visit HK in the future!

Small classes, high quality of instruction with their own materials, and the teachers really put in a great effort. It’s a great place to start learning Cantonese or continue learning more and more. They are also quite flexible to accommodate students with different backgrounds (e.g. if you learned Mandarin before or want to learn some characters).

I took Cantonese classes from this school with Branda, and was amazed at her skills to teach in a lively and very interactive way. She was never short of pertinent and tailored explanations that helped me grasp and memorize the concepts of the language so foreign to my own way of thinking about language, being French and 60+ years old! She could bring me to love that language. Which is the most important motivational key to language acquisition, and always so encouraging, which is the second most important key. I’m able now to chat on everyday life topics, as long as people speak “maahn maahn”! 😀 merci beaucoup!
